Members with a cell phone on file are automatically enrolled in Bluebonnet’s Outage Alerts text service. Once enrolled, you can text to 44141:
• OUT to report an outage using your smartphone.
• STATUS for an outage update.
• HELP for more information.
• STOP to opt out of Outage Alerts.

When you call from the phone number tied to your account, we can more quickly locate the area where power is out and restore your power.
That means it is important that you keep your account information updated with your most current phone number.
Here are three ways to update your contact information:
- Log in at bluebonnet.coop, go to the Notifications tab, then Manage Contacts and click the “Add Phone Contact" button.
- Log in to the MyBluebonnet mobile app, go to More, Settings, then Contact Methods
- Call 800-842-7708 to speak with a member service representative between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Text alerts FAQ
Bluebonnet updated its outage text alerts number to 44141 to make it easier to remember. It is not a scam. Just update the “Bluebonnet Outages” number to 44141 for quick access the next time you need to report an outage or get an update on the status of your power outage. If you’ve opted out, text “BBOUTAGE” to 44141 to reenroll in outage text notifications.
Bluebonnet changed the outage text number to be easier to remember. It closely follows our outage phone number, 800-949-4414, making it simpler for you to recall in case of an outage. The previous number was shared with multiple utilities and could be flagged by phone carriers as spam. By having a dedicated number, we can ensure our messages are delivered reliably and provide a better service to our members.
Bluebonnet updated its outage text number on Aug. 15, 2024. If you have not yet received a text from the new number, 44141, you will in the coming days. You can save this number, perhaps as “Bluebonnet outages”.
After the update, if you text 85700, you will receive a message asking you to text OUT to 44141 to ensure your outage is reported. If you text 85700, your outage will not be recorded. Members enrolled in outage texting will receive status updates from 44141.
Bluebonnet members will not receive any alerts from the old outage text number, 85700. We recommend you save the new number, 44141, in your contacts, perhaps as “Bluebonnet outages”.
Yes, the only change is the text number. Bluebonnet members will continue to receive the same status updates and report outages in the same way as before by texting OUT to 44141. The process remains simple and familiar, ensuring you stay informed and can easily report outages.
No, members will not have to sign up for outage alerts, but if you’ve opted out you can reenroll by texting “BBOUTAGE” to 44141.
Yes, Bluebonnet members can have up to two cell phone numbers set to send and receive outage reports and status updates on up to nine different service locations.
Yes, if you no longer want to receive outage notifications, you can respond STOP to 44141.
